Stop Speaking Like an Employee. Start Speaking Like a Leader

5 Scripts to Delete From Your Vocabulary in 2026.

TL;DR: Passive language kills opportunity. Precise language creates it. Below are the 5 specific swaps I’m making to sound less like I’m asking for permission and more like I’m driving results.

The "Busy Work" Trap

I left a hard truth in 2025: When I sound unsure, I attract busy work. When I sound precise, I attract opportunity.

Words aren't just semantics. They are signals. If you dress your ideas in passive language ("Can I?"), they look small. If you dress them in active language ("I will"), they look like strategy.

Here is the exact code-switch I’m using for the New Year.

5 Scripts to Delete From Your Vocabulary in 2026

01. The Growth Conversation

❌ Stop Saying: "Can I have some feedback?"

  • Why delete it: It’s too vague. It puts the emotional labor on your boss to figure out what you need.

✅ Start Saying: "What is one thing I should start doing to be ready for [Next Role]?"

  • Why it works: Specificity = Maturity. You aren't fishing for a compliment; you are asking for a roadmap.

02. The Impact Conversation

❌ Stop Saying: "Here is a list of what I did."

  • Why delete it: This is "Output" language. Leaders don't care how hard you worked; they care what changed.

✅ Start Saying: "Here are the 3 problems I solved that saved us time/money."

  • Why it works: Outcome > Output. Frame your value in ROI, not hours spent.

03. The Opportunity Ask

❌ Stop Saying: "Let me know if you need help."

  • Why delete it: This is passive waiting. You are asking to be picked.

✅ Start Saying: "I see a gap in [Project X]. I’d love to lead the fix."

  • Why it works: Leadership is taking, not asking. Don't wait for delegation. Identify the hole in the ship and patch it yourself.

04. The Challenge Request

❌ Stop Saying: "I'm open to anything."

  • Why delete it: When you are "open to anything," you are usually hired for nothing. Desperation smells expensive.

✅ Start Saying: "I’m looking for a role where I can use my skill in [X] to fix [Y]."

  • Why it works: Specificity attracts opportunity. When you tell people exactly where you fit, they know exactly how to help you.

05. The Connection Builder

❌ Stop Saying: "Can I buy you coffee?"

  • Why delete it: "Picking someone's advice" is extraction. It’s draining.

✅ Start Saying: "I loved your post about [Topic]. It actually helped me [Result]. I’d love to keep in touch."

  • Why it works: Value > Extraction. Build relationships on gratitude and shared results, not reques

Words Create Worlds.

You can't control the market in 2026. But you can control your script.

Which of these 5 phrases are you deleting this week?
